How Canva pricing works
Canva uses a freemium pricing model with four tiers: Free, Pro, Business, and Enterprise. The free tier provides core design tools at no cost, while paid plans unlock premium content, advanced AI features, and team collaboration tools at increasing price points.
What drives cost
The primary billing dimensions are per-person licensing and plan tier. Every paid seat is billed individually — there are no volume bundles at the Pro or Business level. Cost scales with the number of users on your account and the tier you choose. Key differentiators between tiers include:
- Premium content access — Pro and above unlock 141M+ premium photos, videos, graphics, and audio (vs. 4.7M on Free).
- AI allowance — Each tier provides a shared monthly pool of AI uses across Standard, Premium, and Ultra AI tools. Free gets up to 200 Standard or 20 Premium uses; Pro gets 10x Free; Business and Enterprise get 20x Free.
- Brand Kits — Free includes 1 (limited to 3 colors), Pro includes 5, Business includes 100, and Enterprise includes 1,000.
- Cloud storage — Ranges from 5 GB (Free) to 1 TB (Enterprise).
- Team and admin controls — Business adds collaboration and team admin tools; Enterprise adds SSO, SCIM, audit logs, and advanced brand governance.
Billing cadence and discounts
Canva offers both monthly and annual billing. Annual plans save from 16% compared to monthly pricing. For reference, annual pricing is:
- Pro: US$144/year per person
- Business: US$250/year per person
- Enterprise: Custom pricing (contact sales)
The Free plan has no cost and no trial period required. Pro and Business both offer free trials before committing.
Special pricing programs
Canva provides discounted or free access for specific groups:
- Nonprofits receive a free subscription with premium features for one team of up to 50 users. Additional seats are 50% off on Enterprise.
- K-12 education organizations (educators, students, and qualified districts) get free access through Canva Education.
- Higher education gets access through Canva Campus.
AI Pass add-on
For teams that need more AI capacity, Canva offers AI Pass as a recurring add-on to Pro or Business plans. AI Pass provides 40x more AI than Pro (or 20x more than Business) across Ultra, Premium, and Standard AI tools. This is a separate, extra-cost subscription on top of the base plan.
Payment methods
Canva accepts PayPal and major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), plus other online payment systems in select countries. Prices on the pricing page exclude tax — applicable sales tax, GST, or provincial taxes are calculated at checkout based on your billing address.

Plan comparison at a glance
Canva hidden costs and fees to watch for
Canva's pricing page is relatively transparent, but there are a few cost areas that can catch buyers off guard.
AI overages
Canva's AI allowance resets monthly, but if your team relies heavily on AI tools (especially Premium and Ultra tiers), you may hit limits before the month ends. The solution is AI Pass — but that's an additional recurring cost on top of your plan. Budget for it if AI is central to your workflow.
Tax is not included
All prices on Canva's pricing page exclude applicable taxes. In the US, sales tax is applied based on your billing address. In Canada, GST and provincial taxes are added. This can add 5-15% to your effective cost depending on your location.
Team growth on annual plans
Business uses pay-as-you-grow billing. On annual plans, if team members are added mid-cycle, charges are prorated and applied at the next quarterly adjustment. Admins receive notice, but if you're not monitoring team invitations closely, costs can increase unexpectedly.
Print order costs
Business and Enterprise users get a 10% discount on print orders, but print is still an additional cost — it's not included in the subscription. The discount also cannot be combined with other print promotions.
Feature gating by seat count
Some Enterprise features require minimum seat commitments:
- IP indemnity and AI output indemnity: 100+ seats
- Dedicated customer success manager and creative services: 150+ seats
If you're buying Enterprise with fewer than 150 seats, confirm exactly which features are included in your contract.
How to negotiate lower Canva pricing
Canva's list prices — particularly at the Business and Enterprise tiers — are often negotiable, especially for annual commitments, larger teams, or organizations willing to consolidate onto a single platform.
1. Commit to annual billing upfront
Canva already offers a 16%+ discount for annual vs. monthly billing. But if you're evaluating Canva for the first time, use your willingness to commit annually as a negotiating chip — especially at the Business tier. Ask whether an upfront annual payment (rather than monthly charges on an annual plan) unlocks any additional discount.
2. Negotiate seat pricing at scale
Since Business costs US$250/year per person with no built-in volume discount on the pricing page, there's room to negotiate per-seat pricing for larger teams. If you're bringing 20+ seats, ask for a tiered rate or a custom quote. Canva's pay-as-you-grow model means they're incentivized to land larger teams — use that leverage.
3. Use competitor pricing as leverage
Tools like Adobe Express, Figma, and Visme compete directly with Canva. If you have quotes from competitors — especially at lower per-seat rates — present them during your negotiation. Canva's sales team is more likely to offer concessions when there's a credible alternative on the table.
4. Time your purchase near end-of-quarter or end-of-year
Like most SaaS companies, Canva's sales team works toward quarterly and annual targets. Initiating your negotiation in the final weeks of a quarter (especially Q4) increases your chances of getting a better deal, as reps are motivated to close deals before the period ends.
5. Ask about nonprofit, education, or startup discounts
Canva explicitly offers free premium access for nonprofits (up to 50 users) and 50% off Enterprise for additional nonprofit seats. K-12 education organizations also qualify for free access. If your organization falls into any special category, apply through Canva's dedicated programs before negotiating standard pricing — you may get a better deal than any negotiated rate.
6. Negotiate Enterprise contracts strategically
For Enterprise, all pricing is custom and requires contacting sales. Key levers include:
- Right-size your seat commitment. Features like IP indemnity and AI output indemnity require a minimum of 100 seats, and dedicated support requires 150+. If you're near these thresholds, negotiate to include them at your actual seat count rather than paying for seats you don't need.
- Bundle services. Enterprise includes creative services and a dedicated customer success manager at 150+ seats. If you're below that threshold but interested in these services, negotiate to include them as part of your contract.
- Lock in multi-year pricing. If you're confident in long-term adoption, offer a 2- or 3-year commitment in exchange for a lower annual rate or locked pricing that protects against future increases.
- Negotiate AI Pass inclusion. AI Pass is an extra-cost add-on. At the Enterprise level, push to have it bundled into your contract rather than paying separately — especially if AI usage is a key part of your team's workflow.
